Calico bags

Rosemary has finished her calico bag and it looks good. Chris is making some delicate flowers for her bag.

We would love to see your bag when it's finished and I'll post a photo of them on the blog.

1972    Embroidery of the Century

Rosemary has completed another wonderful quilt for the Embroidery of the Century Project.

It is a patchwork quilt about the year 1972. Helpers researched a significant moment during the year and made an embroidered panel to depict that moment.

I think most of us have memories of 1972 I certainly do !

Well done, Rosemary.

Silk Museum, Macclesfield

  1. Inspired by India

Inspired by India

The Silk Museum, 17 June-8 September 2017
Celebrating UK/India year of culture, artist Nikki Parmenter has worked with local community groups and schools to illustrate the colour and imagery of the countries’ creative relationship.
The exhibition also explores the work of Macclesfield’s Thomas Wardle who helped teach artist William Morris about natural dyes – both men’s work being ‘inspired by India’.  Nikki’s centrepiece is the ‘Silk Peacock’, the national bird of India, which incorporates Indian symbolism, Wardle’s designs and Morris’ patterns.  We invite you to join us and design your own peacock feather to add to the artwork.

Call for textile artists

Lorna from the Two Doors Studio in Alsager has asked me to share this email with Textile friends

Two Doors Studio
Call for Art and  Stallholders for our new annual Textile Festival

Similar to our successful Ceramics Festival last September, but for Textiles.

We aim to provide the public an opportunity to view and purchase quality handcrafted textile based products.  A wide choice of local:  spinning, weaving, felted, upcycled clothing, artwork, dyeing, wall hangings, embroidery, tapestry, 3D art etc.

There will also be other events and activities such as hands on demonstrations.

As well as our normal shop, the Studio and Back Room will be full of Textiles and Textile Art. For two weeks we will be offering quality textiles to the public. Items for sale left with us for the exhibition will be sold on commission. If you are interested in selling items in the exhibition please contact us for more details,  by email or phone the shop. Please do not bring items to the shop we can only accept work by prior arrangement.

In addition we will have space for 10 stalls (6 upstairs in the Studio and, 4 outside in our large marquee).  On Sunday the 21st of May. You may sell you hand crafted items. Additional selected items may then be left with us for sale in the following  2 weeks if you wish and we can fit them in.  But you could enter items into the exhibition in their own too!

Stalls will be £20 for the 6 hour session.  10 am to 4pm.

Please note:  Stalls can be individual or shared with other people, but you will only be allowed to sell items handcrafted by the stallholders or your team, no resale items allowed.

We also need textile crafters to help us provide demonstrations (or other ideas!) both on the Sunday and during the following two week Exhibition. Have a chat with Lorna if you think you can help (and publicise yourself if you wish).
If you wish to enter items into our two week Textile Exhibition, then contact Two Doors Studio and speak to Lorna.  Note: we can only accept items at the shop by prior arrangement.

Phone cases are small and easy to make. They also protect your phone. This is one I made recently.

American Museum in Bath

I recently visited the American Museum in Bath. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The Museum had brilliant displays of life of the first settlers in America.

There were  room settings with authentic furnishings through the ages.

There is a wonderful collection of quilts.

Also, I loved the folk art hall.

There was a large exhibition of clothes from the jazz age.

There was also an Exhibition of Contemporary Needlework on display by Joyce Petschek. It was stunningly beautiful.

Today's meeting

Today we enjoyed a hands-on meeting. The theme was flowers and we were decorating calico bags.
Here's a few ideas being put together. Don't forget to bring your bags in to show everyone.
